One of the most conservative presidents of the United States, Ronald Reagan, in his motivating and eye-opening inaugural address, claims that America situation can be improved and informs his audience about his agenda and the state of nation. The president develops his claim by first using rhetorical questions to lay emphasis on the current situation of America. By asking the rhetorical question Reagan was able to make the America situation important and an idea in citizen’s mind. By using the rhetorical device, Reagan was able to arouse our interest to continue to listen to him speak and to be convinced to be on board with his agenda. Then Reagan excludes confidence in the people using their freedom and other resources to revive America. Finally, Reagan would use parallelism to emphasize the idea of working together to achieve a better United States of America. Reagan’s purpose is to persuade America to trust in his ideas for the country and to start thinking about what you can do to revive America. Reagan adopts an encouraging and confident tone for his audience, so citizens will be inspired to be on board with his agenda and help him create a better United States of America.
